The Rabbi John Rayner Centenary Conference

Monday, 8 July, 2024 2 Tammuz 5784

9:30 AM - 4:15 PMLiberal Jewish Synagogue

Rabbi John Rayner (ז ל) was the foremost influential Liberal Rabbi of his generation.  Born in Berlin in 1924, he came to England in 1939 on the Kindertransport. He is most well-known for his prayer books, Service of the Heart, Gate of Repentance and Siddur Lev Chadash. But he wrote on Jewish Ethics, progressive halakhah, Israel and the contemporary events of the time in  which he lived. Rabbi Rayner died in 2005.

During the morning of the conference, scholars and Rabbis will speak on these aspects of his work, with a chance for small buzz groups to reflect on the lectures immediately after they have been given. The afternoon sessions will be devoted to a variety of different subjects from which you are invited to choose one. These will be facilitated by progressive rabbis.
